Field Service Engineer - Packaging Equipment
Available Position(s): Field Service Engineer – Packaging Equipment
Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Home Office & Travel Nationwide

Position Description:

A successful Field Service Engineer candidate is responsible for ensuring a high rate of customer satisfaction through the installation, troubleshooting, repair and support of new and legacy Standard-Knapp packaging equipment at the customer’s facility. The candidate must have a background in automation and have strong PLC knowledge. Field Service Engineer will be required to write detailed service reports for each job and report directly to the service manager.

Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Installation, start-up, commissioning and test of the company’s equipment supplied to a customer plant.
  • Technical assistance, both mechanical and electrical, during and after warranty period on site or by phone.
  • Training customer’s employees and other services on the equipment delivered to the customer.
  • Other tasks as required to fulfill their mandate.

Assets & Experiences:

  1. Proficiency in Machine Automation, Mechanics, and Electronics
  2. 3+ years Field Service experience in a similar industry preferred
  3. Proficiency in Rockwell Automation software, specifically RSLogix 5000
  4. Conversational Spanish an asset

Junior Design Engineer

Position Responsibilities:

  • Entry level Design Engineer in our Engineering Department.
  • Developer with hands-on problem solving of new and existing designs.
  • Adherence to budget and schedule constraints.
  • Design, develop and support high speed packaging automation machinery for the food and beverage industry.
  • Creatively solve application problems to enable customer’s products to run efficiently on Standard-Knapp automation solutions.
  • Create new and modified design solutions in 3d (Autodesk Inventor) and 2d (Autocad). Estimate the costs of design solutions. Maintain Engineering & Drafting best practices.
  • Collaborate with Standard-Knapp manufacturing and purchasing to implement the solutions during the machine build and testing process.
  • Review of project specifications to assure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Actively contribute to design reviews, FMEAs, and other team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Optimum Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 1 to 2 years of mechanical design experience.
  • Basic troubleshooting capabilities (RCCA / 5 why’s experience is a plus)
  • Strong computer skills (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and MRP experience a plus)
  • A passion for mechanisms and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical assembly best practices.
  • Knowledge of CAD & Drafting best practices.

Controls Engineer

Position Responsibilities:

  • A high level position in the Engineering Department. Will be responsible for electrical configuration management.
  • Serve as a technical expert with significant client contact.
  • Use Auto-Cad Electrical to create new and modify existing design solutions. Estimate the costs of design solutions. 
  • Active developer with hands-on problem solving of new and existing designs. 
  • Adherence to budget and schedule constraints.
  • Design, develop and support high speed packaging automation machinery for the food and beverage industry.
  • Creatively solve application problems to enable customer’s products to run efficiently on Standard-Knapp automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with Standard-Knapp manufacturing and purchasing to implement the solutions during the machine build and testing process.
  • Review of project specifications to assure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Work with customers to ensure that any problems are quickly corrected.
  • Provide technical support for North American customers of our sister company A&F Packaging Solutions located in Kirchlengern Germany. 

Optimum Position Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • 5 to 10 years electrical and controls design experience.
  • Industrial Control Panel experience.
  • 3 phase AC power systems
  • Knowledge of electrical assembly best practices. 
  • Knowledge with NFPA79, NFPA70E, NEC codes.
  • Knowledge of PackML a plus.
  • PLC and Motion experience (Allen Bradley preferred), motors, drives, HMIs
  • Communications Standards (Ethernet/IP, AS-I, IOLink)
  • Advanced troubleshooting capabilities
  • Strong computer skills (2D AutoCAD Electrical; MRP experience a plus)
